Approach life with LOVE and not FEAR

Last week at work while I was on one of my brakes I read an article in a magazine that really touched me and made me think. It is something we hear about all the time but I think that is only because we need to always be reminded!

The article was about a woman who's mother recently was diagnosed with colon cancer. Her mother is young, in her 50's, and they are very close. It was a real trial for them and their family and it brought a damper on their home. The woman said, "I decided my job was to find joyful moments during what could have been a terrifying time." Despite what they were going through she DECIDED to find the joyful moments. There are some times you have to look harder than others for those joyful moments but whether you believe it or not, their there!

She also said, "Just because a situation is grim doesn't mean you don't have the right to smile". You're the one who puts the smile on your face! You're the one who gets to decide if it's there or not. I know there have been many times in my life that I have forgotten to smile or just didn't want to. It seems that those times are the times we need to smile the most and not so much for others but for our self. It's usually easier to find those joyful moments when your smiling!

"It isn't about 'being strong' and pretending everything is okay; it's about finding joy WHERE YOU CAN". As I was reminded yesterday there are things that happen that we don't understand and that are beyond our control. Why do bad things happen to good people? Why me? It's easy to ask these questions and many more because most of the trials we receive don't seem fare. It's not always easy to find the joyful moments. During these times more than ever we need to rely on the Lord to help us find them (the joyful moments), to help us remember the good times as well as the other bad times we have had and gotten through with His help. We need to find the good things where we can. In a way, to me at least, those good things I can find during the hard times remind me that I am loved. That Heavenly Father is watching out for me. That I'm not alone.

It's so hard because we don't have control over the trials we go through (for the most part) but we do have control over our reaction to them. If we can approach our trials with faith and with a desire to try and figure out what our Heavenly Father is trying to teach us we will get more from it. Our trial will help us to grow!
While I was thinking about this I was reminded of two quotes from two amazing men. The first is from President Hinckley "life is to be enjoyed, not only endured." The other from Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, "Come what may, and love it." If you look hard enough, and with a smile, you can always find the bright side. Sometimes it takes longer than others and most of the time you can't do it on your own. Heavenly Father is always there for us and He loves us so much that he also gave is mothers and fathers, sisters and bothers, husbands and wives, children, friends and neighbors who love us and who are there for us. We just need to remember to decide to want to find the good things, try and put a smile on and ask for help and you will find the joyful moments, the good things. You will find the bright side!

Memorial Weekend = Beaver, Utah

Nate and I spend our Memorial weekend every year in Beaver with his family. I know, most of you are probably wondering why Beaver? It is a pretty random place and I asked myself the same question when I first met Nate. It all made sense though when I finally asked him about it. His family owns a huge amount of property up in one of the mountains there! His grandma and all her siblings have built little cabins out of tough sheds and have decorated them all cute! I think his grandparents spend more time at Beaver during the summer than here at home! Every Memorial weekend the whole extended family goes up to Beaver to hangs out and be together all weekend. Considering how I feel about camping it's weird to say that I actually enjoy it up there. There are all kinds of cool things to see and do! We went up on Saturday morning and spent most of the day just hanging out! On Sunday we went on our huge Sunday hike. I think it ended up being about 5 miles. We got to see some mine shafts, Indian writings and burial grounds, and a coyote skeleton skull!! On Monday, the cousins and a couple of the uncles went on the famous 4 wheeling ride to the bus! I unfortunately stayed behind because I was super sick. Come to find out there were about others who were also sick and it was due to dehydration from the hike the day before!! I have never been so dehydrated in my life and after learning the hard way, I hope to never get so dehydrated again!

We decided to take Chloee this year and I'll be honest, I was totally against it. I even tried getting out of going myself by telling Nate it was either me or the dog going!! He didn't go for it. Luckily though she was really good. We actually let her off her lease most of Sunday and Monday and had no problem! She loved being able to run around and play with all the kids! Not only did she go camping for her first time but she also went swimming for her first time! She was so scared at first and after finally deciding to go in and realizing that her feet wouldn't always touch she freaked out and swam back. Nate decided to put her on a paddle boat they had up there, paddle to the middle of the pond and push her off and she swam all the way back to shore! She didn't go in again after that though. I just hope that after that experience she is not terrified of water forever! She also meet her love! Nate's cousin Jason also has a golden lab who is about 4 months older than Chloee! They hit things off at the pond and spent as much time together the rest of the trip as we would let them. They were so cute together!!

I have had the opportunity to go to Beaver 3 times. Last year was the first year I went that I wasn't able to sleep in his parents motor home because we were married and slept in a tent. Of course it ended up raining the whole time we were there and I voued after that experience that I would never sleep in a tent up there again! We ended up renting a motor home with his parents and were very comfortable during our trip! As comfortable and fun as it was I am so glad to be home and clean!

............. until next year!!!!!!!!

Now the waiting begins....

So I finally was able to see my grades on Wednesday and am proud to say that I passed physiology with flying colors!! That means that I am officially done with my prerequs (sorry, couldn't figure out how to spell that!) and can now apply for Nursing programs and wait to see what happens. I've applies to IHC's program and will apply to SLCC'S this coming week. If I don't get accepted for the Fall semester my plan it to take Pathophysiology which is the only Nursing program class you can take before you get accepted. From there on out I'll work on getting my associates through SLCC. If I get my associates before I'm accepted then I'll start applying for Bachelors Nursing programs! We'll just have to wait and see what happens. But for now we cross our fingers and wait!!
Nate did really well in all of his classes as well! We are so glad to have those yucky classes we took behind us and look forward to another semester of new yucky classes in the fall~

GOTTA LOVE FINALS!!!!

Last Monday I had my last final and Nate had his last 3 out of 4 finals. He is crazy! I don't know how he worked full time, went to school full time and still was able to get as much done on the yard as he did plus all the homework that goes along with all those classes! He is amazing! As glad as I am that Spring Semester is over it just means he has more time for the yard! I'm sure you will all be as glad as I am when we get this darn yard done so you won't have to hear about it anymore!

For Christmas Nate's parents got us season tickets to Hale Center Theater. We ended up having a show that night after our finals! The show was Treasure Island and every one I talked to after wasn't real thrilled with it. I can't give my full honest opinion. Well, I guess I can but it wouldn't be fare. I can tell you the first half was pretty good but I fell asleep about 5 minutes into the second half and woke up off and on until the end!

It is going to be so nice to have a break, once we finish the yard, until next semester! I just hope the summer doesn't go to fast!

~ Happy Mother's Day, Mom ~

Aren't mom's the greatest? Well I would have to say that mine is the BEST!! My mom works hard away from the home to help provide for her family but she also works hard in the home supporting her family.

My mom is a convert to the church! Neither of her parents are members and she says it was through the examples of her friends that she was baptised and later sealed to my dad for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple! My mom is a registered nurse and has worked in several areas since graduating!

My mom is an amazing woman and I think Sami, Jason, Lexi, and my dad would all agree with me when I say that working as a nurse is only one of her many occupations. My mom is a teacher. She taught all of us kids, well, she has tried to teach us how to clean up after ourselves, how to sort the laundry before putting it in the wash and how to make an edible meal! She has taught us about the Savior. How important it is that we be grateful to him for all that he has done for us and continues to do for us daily. She has taught us how important it is to pray to him and to always know we are never alone. She teaches us every day how to serve, love, and how to never give up through her incredible example. Her strong testimony and love of the lord has gotten our family through some pretty challenging times!

My mom is a tutor. She is always helping someone with homework! Somehow the kids these days are learning more and more at a younger and younger ages! Jason and Lexi's math is getting especially challenging and a lot of times after reading the directions she doesn't have any idea what it is talking about. That doesn't stop her though. She will google the different words in the directions and call all the neighbors she has to until she gets it figured out.

My mom is a Cheerleader! She has always encouraged all of us to always do our best and to never give up. She has encouraged us to have dreams and to make goals and she will do whatever it takes to help us get there if it is something we really want! She is on the side line of every basketball game, soccer game, gymnastics meet, and piano recital cheering us on. We can feel her prayers for us during every test we take and interview we have!

My mom is a nurse to us and all the neighbors. When ever someone has a question about symptoms their daughter has or what medicines their child can take they call my mom. She always has a band aid and an "all better kiss" ready at any moment. She taught us to use frozen veggie bags as ice packs and Popsicle sticks for splints. she is willing to hold our hair when we're over the toilet and whenever we are on pain medicine she keep us on a strict schedule with them! She is also a nurse for our hearts. When ever we have a bad day or are going through a hard time she is always there and doing what she can to try and make us feel better! She always has a word of encouragement and love when ever needed!

My mom is also a taxi driver, a chef, an interior designer (with the help of Sami!), a referee, counselor, housekeeper, an artist and a play writer (those that write the plays for the sports)

Finally, my mom is my Best Friend! We have gotten so close the last couple of years and that bond is continuously getting stronger! I know I can go to her for anything. One of the best things about my mom is that she is such a great friend but she also knows when to be mom! She is really good about playing the part that is most needed at the time! She knows when to give advice and when to just listen. She is hip and fun! She always puts others before herself and constantly looking for ways to help. "Things will work out" is something she is famous for saying. She is very optimistic and patient. If things don't go as planned we either try again, try it a different way or just go with the flow depending on the situation!

Thank you so much for your example, love, support and for always being there! Thank you for your friendship. I hope I can one day be the mom that you have been to me and the rest of the kids! I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day. I love you so much!

"One year older and wiser too.."

I definitely am one year older but I'm not so sure about the wiser part! It ended up being a crazy weekend and I didn't get many pictures this year. I'll have to try and do better next year!

It all started on Friday night when Nate and I went out to dinner with my family. We went to Madelin's Steak House. It was so good! Also, they found out it was my birthday and gave me a HUGE piece of an Ice Cream Mud Pie thing. Luckily for my family I'm nice and happened to be very full because I shared it with all of them. Luckily also, there was enough to go around. On the way home we needed to run by Lowe's to get stuff for our yard, of course. While there we decided to get a ceiling fan for our room. I didn't know at the time but they also have remotes you can get for them that turn the fan and light on and off as well as dim the light. Nate told me about it and was so excited to try it out!!

Nate had told me earlier that week that he wanted to take me out on Saturday for my birthday and I was so excited!! Sad to say but it has been a while since we have been out by ourselves between school, work and our yard. I had a bridal shower to go to Saturday afternoon. When I got home and found Nate working on the fan I knew our date was out of the question! When we got our fan and the guy was explaining how to install it he told Nate it was really easy and would be very fast, about 30 minutes. Well I knew that meant about 3 hours. Nothing against my wonderful husband but he has never installed one before and I'm sure it takes a little longer when your trying to figure out exactly what your doing. Also, all of our house projects have taken at least two times longer than originally planned. So, I was speaking from experience when I said 3 hours!

Lets just say I underestimated! BIG TIME!!! He worked on it until about 7:00 when he finally gave up and decided to take me out to dinner because the control piece from the remote wasn't fitting in the light the way it was supposed to! He took me to Leatherby's which we both LOVE! It's almost like the best of both worlds there. You get really good food as well as really good ice cream. If you didn't already know, Ice Cream is my FAVORITE!! After dinner we had to go back to Lowe's because the super smart man told us to get the wrong things. This time when we went there that same man was there but he had 2 other super smart men with him. Hopefully you can sense the sarcasm!! We didn't realize how smart they were until we got home that night and tried working our 30 minute installation. Nate wanted to go to a movie but I just wanted to go home and relax so we compromised and bought a movie we could watch at home! He even bough Bride Wars. It was the first time we had seen it and loved it! It was so funny. But the real fun started again after the movie was over and we decided to work on the fan again. We needed to have it finished that night because our room was in shambles from all the light stuff everywhere and we had no power. Oh ya, speaking of power I forgot to mention that earlier that day, before we went to dinner I touched a live wire and was electrocuted for my first time ever! Lets just say it scared me more than it hurt and it put me in an even worse mood!!
Well, needless to say, we worked on that darn fan from about 10 pm until about 1:30 am. The most frustrating thing of all wasn't that we couldn't get it to work, it was that we were doing everything the way those 3 smart men were telling us too and it wasn't working! With both of us at our wits end we decided to call it a night. We cleared off our bed as much as we could and luckily we didn't have to worry about not having power because it wasn't to cold that night!

Nate had a vision in the middle of the night which I am very happy to say he kept to himself until I woke up the next morning. Let's just say what he had in visioned worked!!! Once we figured out what we were doing it took us about an hour and half to get everything installed, running and cleaned up!

Sorry, I kind of got a little carried away and kind of put two posts into one but the moral of this story is to NEVER, NEVER, NEVER assume that the guys at Lowe's know what their talking about when they tell you how to do something or what you should buy for a certain project because they usually don't. The worst part of all is that they won't admit to it. They sound so confident and talk to you like they know everything when in reality they hardly do! But you don't know that until you get home with your project and try to follow their instructions and advice!! So I finally had a working light and fan with a remote for my birthday and can I say how proude Nate was! He was so excited! And at least now we know how to do it so next time we can do it in 30 minutes!

After church Nate and I and Nate's family all went over to my parents and we had a big family dinner. We had BBQ'd Hawaiian burgers and all the yummy sides that come with a BBQ! It was great! After we hung out and played Guitar Hero World Tour and then had Cake and Ice Cream. Nate's mom brought the cake. She said she saw it at the store and thought of me! It was a triple chololate something or other cake. It was chocolate cake with a chocolate icing layer in the middle, chocolate frosting on the outside with chocolate slivers all over the top and sides! If you haven't guessed already, I love chocolate so she hit that right on the nose! It was so good but so rich!!

Over all I had an amazing birthday. Thank you so much to our families for a great day and for spending it with us and for all their love! Thank you also to the best husband ever for a great weekend, minus the fan! Also, thank you to both for all the fun gifts. My amazing husband got me a Cricket and I can't wait to try it out. Then my families got me cartridges for it! Thank you so much you guys! I love you all so so much......

All the fun stuff from Nate

All the fun stuff from my families

POWDER!!

Let's just say I didn't realize how messy the cement stamping powder was! I fogrot to post this picture with the rest of the yard ones but you have to see it! Luckly he got the worst of it. Although all of their hands (his, my dad's, and Korbins) were pretty bad.

Happy May Day - Love, Madelyn

First, a little back ground information. At work yesterday a lady came in to use one of our sterilizer machines to run some testes on a new set of instruments wanting to be used. As she was sitting signing papers she said, "Today is May Day". I had totally forgot that it was and so I smiled. She asked if I ever did anything for May Day growing up? I said no. Well in school we would do random things like sing flowers songs and make paper flowers but that's about it. She told me she grew up in one of the Dakotas and there on May Day you pick flowers, put them on your friends porch, ring the door bell and run. The only thing was if they caught you they got to kiss you! I thought that was such a fun/cute little thing to do as little kids. (There I go with my Holiday loving/kid at heart, again!)

Well, yesterday Nate and I were going to go to dinner for my Birthday with my family and as always some of us were running late!! (It's okay, I still love you) I was running out the front door. I flew it open and was planning on reach back as I was half way out the door to grab onto the door knob and throw it closed behind. Something caught my eye as I was running out and getting ready to grab the knob. Much to my surprise it was some home made flowers in a home made vase! I took it off the door to try and figure out what it was! It was flowers for May Day from one of our cute little Sunbeams that we have the honor of teaching every Sunday. It's probably not good to pick favorites but she is definitely one!

I was so touched that she would think of us and share such a fun tradition, that I had only heard about that morning, with us!! As crazy as it is, finding that made my night! Thanks so much Maddie! We love having you in our class~
