My Not So Little Baby Boy

Wednesday, 5/27/15

Last night for bed time stories I decided to pick one from the Friend Magazine that I had gotten a few weeks earlier but hadn't opened yet with the kids. We read a story about being nice and being a good friend. The story was about a 5th grade girl who had had some experiences in the past with boys who were mean causing her to decide that all boys are mean. One day it was raining to the kids had to stay inside to play. A boy in her class went up to this girl and a couple of her friends who were playing a game and asked if he could play. The girl couldn't think of a time that he had been mean but because he was a boy and she had decided that boys are mean she wouldn't let him play. She saw how sad he was as he walked away and felt really bad. She told her friends she didn't want to play the game anymore, went back to her desk and said a prayer telling Heavenly Father how sorry she was and that she never wanted to be mean like that again. Over the next couple of days she noticed that not all boys are mean and eventually apologized to the original boy for being so mean and not letting him play. They talked and became friends.

After reading the story I asked Braxton some questions about the story to make sure he understood what it was about - Was the girl nice at the beginning of the story? What did she do? How did the boy feel? etc

After talking about the story and stressing how important it is to be nice to everyone and let others play with us I decided to talk to him about school. I mentioned that if he ever sees someone all by them self he should ask them if they want to play with him. He thought about it for a second then said, "Or if I'm at recess and no one is playing with me I can ask someone if they want to play with me and if they say no I can go and ask someone else. Then we can play together."

What he said hit me like a ton of bricks! My baby boy isn't so little anymore. The last 5 years I have been able to protect him from the bad/mean things of this world. In a couple of months he's going to walk out the door for his first day of Kindergarten and from then on I'll loose some of my protection abilities. I can't be with him every second to make sure he is doing the right things. That he isn't being made fun of or making fun of someone else. That he isn't playing at recess or eating lunch alone. That he always has a buddy during group work. I won't be able to keep him safe when he's away and I hate it!! We as his family will no longer be the only influence in his life. He's going to be introduced to bad/scary/not nice things and I hate it!

All I can do is love him, pray for him and keep teaching him things at home that will hopefully help him when he ends up in those awful situations, because he will end up in those awful situations.

I hate that my baby boy had to grow up so quickly and that at such a young age he has to be "thrown into the world"

I Love you baby boy! I'm so proud of you and the smart, sweet, helpful, funny boy you are! You are such a wonderful brother and friend. You are so sensitive and worried about others being included and how other people are feeling. You are going to ROCK Kindergarten! As hard as it is for me to let you go I know you are going to have so much fun! You are going to make lots of new friends and learn lots of new things. Always remember I'm here for you and how much I love you!

With a New Year comes New Resolutions

May 27th, 2015

I've been thinking about this post and writing it out in my head since January 1st! Yep, and now we're 5 days away from June 1st - which is 5 months after January 1st and I'm just now getting to it. Where has the year gone....

I had a friend ask me the end of December if we still had a blog because she had been looking for it just for fun but couldn't find anything. To be honest, until she asked about it I had totally forgotten about the Nuttall Family Blog. But since she asked about it I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

I'm not good at journal keeping, scrapbook making, memory writing and I'm realizing now that there are many things that have happened over the last couple of years that I wish I would have some how documented. So, here's to a new year and new resolutions. I'll document this way again until I come up with a better way or get more time on my hands; which ever comes first!

I had more resolutions for myself this year such as -
  • Have Family Home Evening every week
  • Read scriptures with the kids every night
  • Have home cooked meals every night (we already did pretty good at this but there is always room for improvement, right)
  • Eat more healthy and get in better shape - not to loose weight but to feel more healthy and better about myself
Some resolutions have gone well, others haven't happened and some are hit and miss. Today I am recommitting myself to those things that I wanted to work on and set goals for 5 months ago.

Better now than never I say!!

Thanks Babe!

Bringing our Baby Girl Home

Braxton checking out his new baby sister
(at this point in time Braxton was obsessed with tissues. He had to have one in his hand all of the time to wipe his nose when ever he had a "booger". Most of the time he didn't actually have a messy nose - but he liked to wipe it anyway!

After coming home Brax was aching for attention
so
Me and Him went in the back yard and colored with chalk.

By the end it was just HIM! Whenever I would pick up a color he would decide that he wanted that color too. After 3 or 4 times of giving him the chalk color I decided it would be eaiser to just let him have all of them!
After the chalk got old he found a metal magnet thing
and decided it was time to "fight"
Braxton, we love you so much! We are so proud of you and the great Big Brother that you are already - and to see how much you love her. Paity is to lucky to be your little sister.

Braxton has so many little cousins his age on Nate's side of the family.
There were 3 missing from this picture between the ages of 8 months and 3 years old!

 Our "happy" family
It had been a really long day
and
Brax was showing how we all were really feeling

What a special Mother's day - getting to spend it with our families and especially our amazing mom's!
I am so blessed to be the mother of 2 adorable and oh so special kiddos.
I love them both so much and am so grateful for the joy they bring to my life and to our family.

Not only was it Mother's Day but Paityn turned 1 week old!

What a wonderful 1st week it has been~

-1 week old-
Braxton and Paityn love to watch each other
Brax loves to do whatever Paityn is doing

Braxton Loves Play Dough
His imagination with it is AMAZING!!

-2 weeks old-

For Memeorial Day this year
(after getting Paityn's new born pictures taken)
we went to Lagoon with Nate's Family
What a fun Day it was!
Braxton LOVED the Mary-go-Round,
the TERROR RIDE
and
the Sky Ride!!
He couldn't go on the Bigger Little Kids rides because he was 1 1/2 inches to short
(they were rediculously strict)
and the little kid rides we got him on
were not a hit - he cried the whole time the ride was going.
Yes, we were "those parents"
and Braxton was
"that kid"
as he was hystarically crying throught the ride!
