Our Patriotic Weekend

We had one CRAZY, FUN FILLED weekend. Nate and I both had Saturday and Monday off and we totally took advantage of it! From Friday night to Monday night was jam packed with non stop family fun!

On Friday night we went to a Birthday dinner for Trista (our soon to be sister-in-law). Then we borrowed my dad's truck (Nate's was in the shop) and took Braxton to his First Drive-in. He was so good - he slept the whole time! I was pretty good too and slept most of the time (not on purpose though). We saw Toy Story 3 and Prince of Persia. We figured that since I don't get Saturdays off very often we would take advantage and stay out late! It was so nice to get out and do something different than what we usually do. It was so fun and the weather was almost perfect.

Saturday morning we took Braxton to his First parade - the West Jordan Parade. Hunt's Gym was in it so we figured it would be fun to go and support Lexi! What a long parade to see the person you came to support for 1 minute but it was fun and nice to just hang out together and with my family.

Lexi and Molly - TOTALLY embarrassed that they saw us

Braxton LOVED his flag

Taking a little break in the shade

Saturday afternoon after running some errands and dropping Braxton off at Grandma Donna's for a sleep over, Nate and I headed to Provo for the Stadium of Fire (Nate got me tickets for Mother's Day)! We thought that with all the construction on the freeway that traffic would be horrible so we left pretty early. Much to our surprise we got there in about 45 minutes. To kill time we went on a little shopping spree for Braxton. Babies R Us had a huge sale on clothes and decided to buy him some winter clothes and a few things for next summer and a new umbrella stroller! Nate then took me to dinner at Ruby River where I had one of the BEST steaks I have ever had! Finally, it was off to Stadium of Fire!! What an awesome Show it was! Carrie Underwood came out and sang the National Anthem with red fireworks going up when she sang "Rockets red glare" and they exploded when she sang "Bombs bursting in air". It was really cool. When she was done four F-16's flew over the stadium! After they flew over the Captain of the four men went on the jumbo screen and talked to the stadium from the cockpit! It was pretty neat!

This year is the 100th anniversary for the Scouting program so they did a HUGE eagle court of honor for quite a few Eagles! They also had the man who helped organize and start up the scouting program there to start the court of honor!

The BEAUTIFUL sun set that night

There was a lot of entertainment - the 5 Browns, Osmond 2nd Generation, and Jenny Oaks Baker - before they brought out the real star of the night - CARRIE UNDERWOOD!!! She put on such a fun show and was able to sing for about an hour. There was an old Grandma a couple of rows in front of us that was jammin out the entire time! Hearing the crowd, it sounded like the boys were more excited to see her than the girls! There was even a teen age boy who was mouthing one of her songs enough for him to get the words in his head but kept it enough to himself that he hoped no one would notice! It was so fun! She is so pretty and seems to be a genuinely good person!

After Carrie they did their all famous fireworks show which I think ended a little early after a firework malfunctioned causing it to go toward the ground and catching someones clothing on fire! Thanks again for the tickets babe! It was so much fun

Sunday after church and finding out that we had taught our Sunbeams for the last time (Nate got a new calling) we went home and took a little nap before heading over to my parents to see our cute little guy! We stayed and had a BBQ with my family and did fireworks with them that night. Braxton Loved all the fun, bright colors that he saw!

Monday morning we went out to breakfast at Cracker Barrel with both of our families! It was so nice again to just be together and hang out.

I'm not sure who LOVED Braxton's new stroller more - Him or Brynnlee

After Breakfast the boys got nice and cozy and relaxed

Braxton with Grandma Hollie

After Running some errands Monday afternoon we headed to Grandma Gerries for the 4th of July dinner. While we were there they decided to set up the Volley Ball net in the front yard for all the cousins to play.

Braxton and Tanner

We layed Braxton on a blanket because he LOVES to be out side and hang out! When Brynnlee saw him laying down she decided she wanted to lay down too and made room for herself next to him!

Brynnlee loves Braxton SO MUCH - she's SO cute with him

Dad and Braxton playing

We finished off the night and the holiday weekend by going to see Toy Story 3 again with Nate's family! I was excited because I didn't see much of it at the drive in. We went as a whole family - everyone went including all three Grand kids!

Like I said, what a Crazy Fun Weekend! We got to spend a lot of time together with our little family and both of our families as well! What better way to spend a long holiday weekend than with family!

-Big Boy in the Stroller-

We learned on our Cedar City trip that Braxton could sit up pretty well in the stroller all by himself when it was tipped back a little bit. We were so excited because that meant we didn't have to leave him in his car seat to use it!

About two weeks ago (7/2/10) we went on a walk and took Chloee to the park to play fetch. While dad was playing with Chloee mom was busy admiring her big boy and taking pictures!!

I'm getting so big

This post is a little late as well but 2 weeks ago Braxton got is FIRST haircut and wore his first 6 month outfit. The outfit was a little big but looked so cute! Mom is definitely getting a little bored of putting him in the same 5 or 6 3 month and 3-6 month summer outfits that he fits in so we decided to try something new since he has so many 6 month outfits!!

Thanks so much to Aunt Sami for giving Braxton his first haircut! Doesn't he just look thrilled?!?! Grandma Donna watches him every Tuesday while mom and dad go to work. I got off before Nate did on Tuesday, June 29th and asked Sami if she would mind cutting his hair while we were there. It was just time. It was getting really long and starting to look funny! He had a little patch on top of his head that was super long and pretty dark, where the rest was pretty light and short. That long part of hair would usually sweep across his head giving it the nick name of the Hitler do! It was so bad. I just wanted the top of his hair even!

A few shots of his hair patch

Before & After

Braxton right before the cut.....

One of the first cuts - get ready ..........

And cut ..... this was so hard for me! It took me a while to get the courage to ask Sami to cut it! It just seems like such a "Big Boy" thing to have done~

He started getting restless and more and more upset as we went along.

And by the end, he was definitely done!
~Thanks again Aunt Sami~

My First 6 month outfit WITH my cool new hair do!

7/2/10

It's all about the LITTLE things~ (4 month update)

~4 MONTH APPOINTMENT~

It's so nice to go to a Doctors appointment for Braxton and only hear good things! His hip didn't pop, his clogged tear duct eye is getting better, he's growing like he should, and we can start feeding him cereal!

It was so fun to hear that he was healthy, that he is on track - even a little advanced with his rolling over, and all the fun things we get to look forward to him doing over the next couple of months!

The only not so good thing we heard is that the left side of his head is a little flat but we still got good news out of it - it hasn't displaced his ears yet?!?! That's a very good thing. She said to keep him on his right side as much as possible and as much as he'll allow and it should go back on it's own.

We went last Thursday 7/8/10 - yes, it was a little late but our Doctor is hard to get into. He's in the 10th% for weight weighing 13.1 pounds and 50th% for length at 25.1 inches long. So, needless to say, he's long and skinny!

Braxton is getting so big and we are so grateful that he is so healthy!

How does your garden grow?

Last year with all of your yard construction we were silly and decided in about July that we wanted to try a garden. Needless to say, it didn't work so well. I think the only thing that didn't die were our strawberries and we actually got 2 or 3! So, this year we decided to give it another try and start planting earlier in the year! We used seeds and baby tomato, pepper, and cucumber plants. We did a couple different kinds of lettuce, tomatoes and peppers to see which worked best and which we liked better! It is going a lot better than we thought! It's almost pathetic how excited we get when we go out and see new things growing and things ripening! (It's so fun to see Nate get so excited over a garden!!)

This is what our garden looked like 3 weeks ago (6/9)

Rhubarb (Nate's idea! He can't wait to make pies with it!)

Cucumber

Peppers

Peas

Carrots

Strawberries

Lettuce

And this was our garden last night! I decided to go out and see if there were any fun things we would actually be able to eat! (We have had Chicken Cesar Salad twice already with lettuce fresh from our garden! It's so much fun!)

Peas

Carrots, Lettuce, Strawberries

Tomatoes

Cucumber

Lettuce

Rhubarb

Yummy things I found....... with much more to come soon!!

While I was playing in the garden, Braxton was hangin out, basking in the sun!

We've have learned many things from our garden this year!
  • Cucumber needs a LOT of room
  • Don't plant so many carrot seeds and keep them together - we have a ton in 2 different places
  • Peas need a wall to climb up - their little vines need something to attach to and it should be each other
  • Don't plant so many pea seeds next year either
  • Watermelon is hard keep alive - I don't think we'll try it again next year
  • Give the Strawberries a little more room making it a little easier to keep them from shooting into the plants next to them
